Before you set out on your journey of relocation, we bid

moving tips for making sure that the path you take is
not the path less traveled by but the road best taken.
1. When do you move?
The first thing you have to do is decide on a timetable
for moving. We mean timetable loosely because you want
to give yourself plenty of extra time to get things done.
It's an unknown fact that it's cheaper to move in the
winter than it is in the summer. The summer is peak moving
season for relocation companies and so demand for their
resources is high and therefore more costly. But is moving
in the cold months better than the warm months? There's
no right answer, it all depends on your personal situation.
If you have kids, the time of year you move is an extremely
important consideration however because moving during
the school year is hard on young children.
2. Pre-Move Organization
This cannot be emphasized enough and is the biggest factor
in determining whether your relocation will be smooth
and easy or stressful and difficult. Time lets you prepare
and plan and then to remember the things you forgot to
prepare and plan. Make a checklist of what needs to be
done. Make multiple checklists if you have to. You don’t
want to be scrambling on the much anticipated move-in
day, feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. Moving into
a new home should be everything you imagined it to be.
Whatever method you want to use, just be sure that you
do use a method for organizing. In the end this will save
you time, money, and sanity.
3. Picking a Good Moving Company
The best place to get information is also the closest.
Keep your friends close and your friends with good moving

4. The Packing Process
This is a not-so-fun part for many people but it really
doesn't have to be. Get the family involved! To get your
children excited about the move, allow them to pack some
of their own boxes and design a layout for their new room.
Decide what to keep and what to throw away or give to
charity. You'll feel good about giving and your load will
literally be lighter. Moving is a chance to start a new
life, so get rid of old baggage, both literally and figuratively.
Packing is usually unpleasant because people simply have
wrong materials and poor quality materials. Invest in
good supplies; they will pay for themselves. There are
boxes for almost every single type of item a person can
possibly have in their home or apartment. USE those boxes.

of those items and easy and secure. Corrugated boxes provide
better protection and support for your valuables. Dishes,
Plasma Screens, Sports Equipment, Lamps, you name it.
There are even wardrobe boxes which allow you to hang
your clothes for the move. But, if you really, really
detest packing, then hire a professional mover to pack
for you.
5. Address Change & Utility
Transfer
If you forget about the Utilities they can haunt you for
years to come. A simple official Change-of-Address with
the United States Post Office will make sure all your
mail gets to you. Remember Gas, Electric, Phone, DSL,
Water, and Cable.
6. Papers & Documents
There are always important documents and papers you should
have with you. Be sure to keep these extra safe:
• Birth Certificates
• Driver's License, or other Identification
• Passports
• Visas
• Written Mover's Estimates
• Bank Records
• Important Phone Numbers
• Local Maps
• Insurance information and Cards
7. Considerations for Relocating with Children
If your kids are already in school you definitely want
to relocate in the summer so you don't have to pull them
out in the middle of a school year. To enroll your child
in a new school you'll need the papers listed below. Also,
visit your state government’s education pages for
the new School District’s information to ensure
that you don’t miss anything. If they are already
in elementary school, of course, you'll want to try and
leave in the summer. Relocating to a new school district
during the school year can be traumatic for kids so it's
best to avoid it. If your children are young, there are
also things you'll want to bring for your kids for the
trip, especially if it's long. In order to enroll your
child into a new public school you will need the following:
• Child's Birth Certificate
• Child's History of Immunization
• School Entry Medical Exam (Ask your physician,
he can do it before the move.) be done by a physician
before the move)
• Food and Medication kids will need on Trip
• Electronic games or even DVD players to keep them
occupied during the voyage.
